Down Town and Perla
FLORENTINO AMEGHINO’S SCULPTURE

Carved in stone by Rafael Radogna in 1983, the bust reminds the one who was the pioneer of argentine palaeontology and made important researches at our coast’s zone of ravines, attempting to base his theory on the American man's origin. Marítimo P.P. Ramos Blvd. and 3 de febrero St. corner.


ALFOSINA STORNI’S MONUMENT

Before leaving Adolfo Dávila promenade, you’ll find Perlotti’s stone sculpture which reminds the place chosen by the great master, writer and argentine world-famous poetess, to finish with her life, October 25th 1938. Marítimo P.P. Ramos Blvd. and Córdoba St. Corner.

NATURAL SCIENCE´S MUSEUM

Along with the inauguration of its new building in Plaza España, December 4th 1967, the museum could show all its magnificent geological, zoological and paleontologic material (many of them unique pieces in the world). Among its most representative pieces there’s one of the most complete fossil and present-day micro mammals’ collection in the world. It has an aquarium with freshwater and salt-water organisms. CITY HALL

It is the headquarters of the communal government. It was built in 1938 by Luis Falcone, on the basis of architect Alejandro Bustillo’s project. The building that reproduces the 16th century’s Florentine architecture is crowned by a 40 meter tower. Luro Av. and Hipólito Irigoyen St. corner.

COLUMBUS PARK - MILLENNIUM`S PARK

This park has many statues, as Don Patricio Peralta Ramos’s one –fused in bronze-; the Christopher Columbus’ monument –in marble-; Isabel La Católica’s monument, inaugurated in October 12th 1992; “La Venus de Milo” –in iron- and Woman taking a bath, Carrara’s reproduction in marble of the masterpiece that is conserved in Louvre’s Museum. In 1999, block 115 is annexed to Columbus Park under the name of “Millennium’s Park”, where the Dancing- Waters Source, that starts its show in the evening, is located. SEA LIONS’ SCULPTURES

Unequivocal symbol of the city, they were made in stone of the region by sculptor Fioravanti. The sculptures’ location is due to these mammals' ancient settlements were at central beaches. Plazoleta de la Armada Argentina (Argentine Navy’s Park). Marítimo P. P. Ramos Blvd.

COLON THEATER

Spanish neo colonial style, it was built in 1924 by Martín Marco, being its architect Angel Pascual. It has an excellent work in stone in its exterior, while ceramics with arabesques stands out in its inside. Next to it, Spain’s Vice-consulate and the Spanish Club keep the same style as the Colon Theatre does.

THE CATHEDRAL OF SAINTS PEDRO AND CECILIA

It was inaugurated in February 12th 1905. Managed by Engineer Pedro Benoit, is a neo gothic style work. It has enormous stained- glass, carried from France, and a reproduction of “La piedad” stands out in its inside. Excepting La Plata’s Cathedral and Luján’s Basilica, this is the biggest one in Buenos Aires province. Peatonal San Martín and San Luis St. corner.

CENTRAL CASINO AND GRAN HOTEL PROVINCIAL

Postcard of the city, the Central Casino and Gran Hotel Provincial were planned and guided by the architect Alejandro Bustillo. They belong to the eclecticism stylistic trend and were constructed in brick, Mar del Plata stone and mansard roof. It is about a great building complex that houses different services: casino, hotel, theatre, swimming pool and commercial galleries.

- Central Casino:its almost 7000-square-meter surface, make it one of the biggest casinos in the world. With some French and Spanish renaissance’s features, it was inaugurated in 1939. Nowadays it has 60 playing tables, including roulette, cards and a lot of slot machines.

- Gran Hotel Provincial:in a 77.500-square-meter place, it presents the most varied services; among them: 500 rooms facing the sea; presidential, ministerial and diplomatic suites, exclusive beach with direct exit from the hotel, etc. It was inaugurated 10 years later than the Central Casino.


MONK’S TOWER

It is one of the symbols that represent the city’s image. It’s established over Punta Piedras, one of the Tandilia’s orographic system’s terminals. It is the only building constructed on the coast, with a great concrete platform that extends towards the sea.
