Relief
The mountain ranges are part of the orographic system of Tandilia, which stretches from Los Cerrillos (Bolivar) to Cabo Corrientes, with a total extension of 350 Km, separated by openings that result in the formation of different geographic groups.

These rocky formations, just like the mountain ranges, are made up of quartzite of great antiquity, highly appreciated in the construction industry and exploited by numerous quarries.

Sediments of different origin filled the depressions and resulted in a smoothly rolling land that tends to level off. Cliffs and beaches prevail in the coast. The former, made up of lime-loessic sediments, are situated to the north and south of the city and are characterized by their erosion setback. The latter have formed naturally among rocky formations, although men have contributed to their formation as well as to their gradual disappearance.

Hidrology
There are no rivers in General Pueyrredon district, still streams and lagoons arise from its topography, worth noting among them are: the Corrientes, Lobería, Seco, Chapadmalal, las Brusquitas, del Tigre, Boquerón, Ojo de Agua, la Ballenera, Huinco, Cardalito, las Chacras, la Tapera, los Cueros and del Barco streams; and de los Padres; Ponce; Santa Rosa and la Peregrina lagoons.

To the north of Mar del Plata, the cold currents of Malvinas Isles meet the warm Brazilian currents, affecting the aerologic conditions of the area.

Deep cold waters outcrop contributing with extraordinary nutrients, and thereby assuring the development of rich fish stocks.
